Armchair Generals
NUviews

For the last issue of the academic year, we decided we wanted to devote the entire feature well of the magazine to coverage of the War in Iraq.

The cover subject is Northwestern history professor Sarah Maza, who specializes in French history, dressed up as Napoleon Bonaparte and sitting in an armchair. She’s actually sitting on the Clark Street Beach in Evanston, but the photographer, Peter Stephan, did a magnificent job of correcting the color of the sand and the sky to make it look like the photo was taken somewhere in Iraq.

On the other hand, the feature well is deliberately mostly devoid of art. What’s important about NUviews’ features, in general, is the text in the articles. So it was my goal to produce an attractive and open layout without getting in the way of the text.

This issue appears to have been our most successful by circulation, as of May 2006.
