Wait for King name on road grows trying
Orlando Sentinel

Many times I’ve written about how a page really designed itself once the art came together. This was not one of those pages, though. Our Seminole bureau simply assigned the wrong kind of photo, in my opinion, for this story, and it left me without anything to really hold the page together.

All we had was this centerpiece about how Seminole County has yet to name a road after Martin Luther King, after one councilwoman has spent 7 years fighting for it.

I glued the package together as best I could with a sidebar the reporter compiled, of other roads and local monuments that have been named for local and national luminaries other than King.

The end result wasn’t perfect, by any means, but one of my objectives is to learn how to make something out of nothing. This is a textbook example.
