NUviews
Our cover strategy for NUviews was, and continues to be, a celebrity-style cover photo, along the lines of what George did in its early days. We find someone who we think looks well-known on campus, concoct a setup thematically related to the cover story, do the costuming and setup and then run with the idea.
In this case, our cover subject is Northwestern history lecturer Lane Fenrich, posing as Superman, for a vaguely superhero-themed story about a new wave of campus activism-related activities. The photo was taken by Joanna Allerhand, a reporter and photographer with whom I’ve worked many times before.
We have a relatively clean cover strategy, mostly because our magazine is distributed for free, but I think this has been probably the most successful of all our covers to date.
